We are so impressed with this incredible work created by our Key Stage 2 students for their reading journals. Each class has 40 ‘Reading for Pleasure’ books to select from (the same 40 across the Year Group), and they’re encouraged to take these home to enjoy every week, reporting back in their journals.
Pupil Voice
We’ve seen a real enthusiasm for reading amongst many of our pupils. Here are some of the children’s favourite books and authors which they happily chatted to us about.
“My favourite author is JK Rowling because I really love Harry Potter. I like how her writing is magical and it’s not just one book, I like how it’s dragged on across a few books.”
“I like The Sea Monster comic book and Stitch Head. I’m reading Charlie Turns into a Chicken at the moment. I also like Steve Hawkins and The Silver Sword, one about famous black people in history. I am on 17 so far out of 40. There’s a folder in our classroom that Miss uses to keep track. I take books home about once a week. At the moment we’re reading the Nowhere Emporium as a class. Miss reads about twice a day to us, for about 10 minutes.”
“We do free reading in class, which is probably my favourite part of the day on a Wednesday. We have free read once a week in class and I do a lot of reading on my own at home.”
“My favourite author is David Walliams, because he wrote my favourite book, The Midnight Gang. I like his writing because it is 300 pages, and I’m not someone who usually reads a lot, but it made me read all the pages. His books are funny and suitable for my age, which is why I like them. ”
“My favourite book is Stitch Head. I like that there’s a little bit of poetry in it and I love the artwork. I like how they use strong words and I like how you can read the book and it’s not too complicated.”
