Year 6

The highest quality care and education for all our children

At Oswald Road Primary School we aim to provide the highest quality care and education for all our children thereby giving them a strong foundation for their future learning. We create a safe and happy environment with motivating and enjoyable learning experiences that enable children to become confident and independent. We value the individual child and work alongside parents, carers and others to meet their needs and help every child to reach their full potential.

Homework

Homework

There is an expectation that children practice their times tables and maths basic skills via TT Rockstars and Numbots. Daily reading at home is also encouraged. The children have a reading journal which they are to use to creatively respond to their reading for pleasure book. Each class has a curated compilation of 40 books which the children are expected to read during their time in Year 6.
Each year group has a homework task grid – see link below – the activities are designed to be screen-free and to enhance the children’s learning within school as well as their social and emotional well being. We encourage the children to engage in the activities over the course of a half term – evidencing them however they see fit (on paper or via SeeSaw).
Via the half termly update, teachers will also advise on any other, optional, revision you and your child may wish to engage in.
Mrs Howard also sends out a Word of the Week to encourage our spellings learning.

PE Days

  • Indoor PE- 6A (Mr Wheeldon) and 6B (Mr McDonagh) on Wednesday,  6C (Mrs Gibson) on Tuesday
  • Outdoor PE- Thursday

PE Kit

Outdoor PE – shorts and jumper/sweater, t-shirt and trainer (jogging pants can be worn in very cold weather). Indoor PE – close fitting shorts (above the knee) and t-shirts. Long hair needs to be tied back. Please ensure that your child’s name is on each item and they wear their PE clothes in to school that day as they will not get changed for PE.

Lunchboxes

Please make sure your child’s name is on their lunchbox. All lunch boxes are kept outside the classroom.

Coats

Coats and PE kit should be put in the cupboards provided in the classroom. Please name your child’s coat.

Phones

If a child needs to bring in a mobile phone for when they walk home, it must be handed into the teacher at the start of the school day, and collected at the end of the school day. All children are expected to read and sign the Pupil Mobile Phone Agreement.

Arrival & Collection of Children

Years 6 children are to walk up to class by themselves by 8:40am. At the end of the day, 6A & 6C (Mr Wheeldon and Mrs Gibson) are to be collected from the Owl Club entrance on Nicolas Road. Parents should wait outside the small hall. 6B (Mr McDonagh) should be collected from the astroturf in the main playground.

Drop-Off: 8.30am – 8:40am

Pick-Up: 3:15pm

If your child is ready to walk home by themselves, we will need written permission via an online form to ensure that all children are accounted for at the end of the day, for safeguarding purposes. Please contact the school office to give permission.

PPA Cover

Our PPA (Planning, Preparation and Assessment) time will be on Thursday morning and covered by Ben Caldwell, Kieran Bentley and Jocelin Bennett.
