Financial Literacy

Financial Literacy is a fun, engaging topic covered within the maths curriculum designed to get children thinking about money from a young age with the aim to encourage positive habits such as saving, develop life skills and improve confidence to support effective decision making around money.
It develops what is already taught on money through maths and PSHE and gives children the opportunity to develop a broader, deeper understanding of money. It encourages children to think about where money comes from, how money makes us feel, what we use money for, how our money helps others and how we can look after our money.
In KS1 the children read a storybook called ‘Milo’s Money’, which includes pockets for the children to open and read. Each pocket has an activity linked to spending, saving, investing or sharing money.
In KS2, Financial Literacy is taught across a day and the focus is around 5 big questions:
  •  Where does our money come from?
  •  How does money make us feel?
  •  What can we use our money for?
  •  How does our money help other people?
  •  How can we look after our money?

Maths Curriculum Videos for Parents

In September 2023 we held a series of ‘Welcome to Yeargroup’ meetings for parents. To supplement this, Headteacher Mrs Howard has recorded some helpful videos for parents to understand how maths is taught in our school. Please click on the links below for your child’s relevant yeargroup. We will also be sending these out to parents half-termly via email. There are also links below to a tens frame and number track resource should any parent find it useful.
