Jen Beech
Assistant Headteacher (KS2)
At Oswald Road Primary School we aim to provide the highest quality care and education for all our children thereby giving them a strong foundation for their future learning. We create a safe and happy environment with motivating and enjoyable learning experiences that enable children to become confident and independent. We value the individual child and work alongside parents, carers and others to meet their needs and help every child to reach their full potential.
In Year 5, we are dedicated to exploring the Year 5 curriculum and preparing our children for Year 6, so they’re ready to hit the ground running for their final year at Oswald Road.

Wednesday is when we read for pleasure and it’s a chance for class teachers to listen to readers. All children have a black reading record for the 40 assigned books and some children will have individual reading records.

Homework is sent out on Fridays.
Spellings are given out weekly and children are tested on them on a Friday afternoon.
Reading takes place daily and the children are encouraged to use TT Rockstars.
You may find the following documents helpful when reading with your child:
Reading Comprehension Parent Handout
Outdoor PE – shorts and jumper/sweater, t-shirt and trainers (jogging pants/leggings can be worn in cold weather).
Indoor PE – close fitting shorts/leggings and t-shirts.
Please ensure that your child’s name is on each item and they wear their PE clothes in to school that day as they will not get changed for PE.
Please make sure your child’s name is on their lunchbox. All lunch boxes are kept in the classroom.
Coats and PE kit should be put in the cupboards provided in the classroom. Please name your child’s coat.
If a child needs to bring in a mobile phone for when they walk home, it must be handed into the teacher at the start of the school day, and collected at the end of the school day. Children should also read and sign our Pupil Mobile Phone Policy.
Years 5 children are to walk up to class by themselves by 8:40am. At the end of the day, 5B (Mr Salisbury/Mrs Savage) are to be collected from the main playground- parents should wait near the black pitch area. 5A & 5C (Miss Beech and Miss Calderbank) are to be collected from the Owl Club entrance on Nicolas Road. Parents should wait outside the small hall.
Drop-Off: 8.30am – 8:40am
Pick-Up: 3:15pm
If your child is ready to walk home by themselves, we will need written permission via an online form to ensure that all children are accounted for at the end of the day, for safeguarding purposes. Please contact the school office to give permission.
Our PPA (Planning, Preparation and Assessment) time will be on Wednesday morning and covered by Ben Caldwell, Kieran Bentley and Jocelin Bennett.
